The Waipā District lies at the centre of the Waikato region, with significant pastoral farming, thoroughbred horse studs and fruit production. Cambridge, Te Awamutu and many small rural villages make up the Waipā District. The Waikato and Waipā rivers flow through the District, with several large hydro lakes on the former.

Opportunities

Thanks to the Waipā District’s resilient agricultural sector, Waipā has remained one of the strongest economies in New Zealand. Waipā’s population is growing by inward migration, as more people recognise the district as a hidden gem. The district offers an attractive lifestyle with boutique townships brimming with character.

The Waipā District’s biggest industry contributors to economic growth are agriculture, forestry and fishing, manufacturing, and construction.

Waipā is also a major sporting hub, with Rowing New Zealand, Triathlon New Zealand, and Canoe Rowing New Zealand all based in the district, along with the Grassroots Trust Velodrome, a world-class cycling facility.

Land Availability

Five new residential growth cells in Cambridge plus a new school and five cells in Te Awamutu will provide ample space for new builds, from affordable to premiere options. New industrial growth areas provide the opportunity for businesses to relocate to live, work and play.

Infrastructure

Businesses in Waipā District enjoy easy access to two seaports (Auckland and Tauranga), along with an airport in Hamilton [HLZ] and the rail network.

Investment Opportunities

Cambridge and Te Awamutu are committed to continued strong growth, with Waipā District Council approving infrastructure for future development opportunities.
