Late Night Lounge Celebrates One Year Since Opening

Ernest, Hamilton's newest late night lounge, brings a touch of elegance and a more adult drinking environment to the local scene.

The bar serves up New Zealand wine and craft beer, as well as a stunning selection of cocktails, offering a “Trust the Bartender” service for those who are feeling a bit more adventurous. If you’re peckish, the kitchen offers New Zealand’s finest fresh and seasonal ingredients in a delicious array of snacks and share plates.

Owner Craig Loveday says “We had our bumps in the road opening last year due to the lockdowns. We were 10 weeks delayed. But when we finally opened our doors to the public we received overwhelming support and since then it has gone from strength to strength.”

It took Loveday 2 years of planning to open Ernest and find the perfect venue and staff. His idea behind the space was to “bring the bars of the UK to New Zealand,” creating a space where guests could talk, enjoy great drinks and experience top service, something he saw as lacking in the Hamilton hospitality scene.

Loveday and his partner Ruth spent 3 months renovating the storied building themselves, turning the former home of Lady H, Shakes, Gravity and Oh Seven into a place that they would want to enjoy a night out.

This Thursday 17th of November marked 1 year since Ernest joined the Hamilton hospitality scene and we look forward to seeing what they do next.

Stop by this weekend to celebrate with the team at 30 Alexandra Street, Hamilton. Open Wednesday - Saturday, 4pm till late.
