Ankita Dhakar began Security Lit during the first Covid-19 lockdown in 2020. With no IT experience, she used her degree in business to kickstart her journey as an entrepreneur.
Security Lit is a cyber security company providing security awareness training, penetration testing and compliance services. The company headquarters are based in Hamilton; however, they work with companies all around the world with a team in India and presence in Europe.
Located in the heart of the Waikato, Ankita praises the up-and-coming tech sector in the region.
“Waikato is well on its way to becoming the tech hub of New Zealand. With a strong talent pool, supportive business community, and industry leaders, the Waikato offers everything a business needs to scale.”
After moving from India to New Zealand in 2015, Ankita's success has been recognised through a collection of awards, with her most recent achievement being a finalist for the 2022 Hi-Tech Young Achiever Awards at the start of the year.
“I never imagined that I would one day be running my own business, let alone one in the tech sector. But my journey to becoming a cyber security entrepreneur has been unique, to say the least.”
Working in a male dominated field, Ankita is a role model for females in the tech industry.
“I'm committed to helping other women succeed in this male-dominated industry because I know firsthand how important it is to have female role models in tech.”
“It hasn't always been easy, but it has been immensely rewarding. I'm proud to say that my company is now helping businesses of all sizes protect themselves from online threats.”
So, what is next for Ankita?
The entrepreneur has recently announced her involvement in the creation of Capture the Bug, a new company focused on resolving potential security vulnerabilities in applications before they can be exploited by bad actors.
“I’m really excited to launch NZ’s first ethical hacking and bug bounty platform. Capture The Bug, a new crowdsourced cybersecurity platform will help businesses find and fix vulnerabilities faster through a pool of skilled and ID verified security researchers worldwide.
